The Underwood girls basketball team lost three key players from their 20-8 squad of a year ago as Sydney Hovland (M State volleyball and basketball), Brenna Tinjum (UM-Morris volleyball) and Corina Mark (M State volleyball) graduated and moved on to compete at the collegiate level in their chosen sport.  Despite the losses, Head Coach Brian Hovland begins his fourteenth year with a degree of optimism.

"We lost a lot of experience to graduation, but we do return quite a bit of our bench and they gained a lot of valuable playing time last year," noted Coach Hovland.  "We should have a good mix of post presence and guard play, and on defense we should be athletic enough to cause problems to most teams."

Returning letter winners include seniors Morgan Evavold (Post) and Abby Marfell (Post), juniors Kayla Rocholl (Guard), Ally Johnson (Post) and Ceri Meech (Wing), and sophomores Brooke Hovland (Guard).

Players new to the varsity and expected to step in and contribute are junior Kindra Peterson (Guard), sophomores Ruby Wahlen (Post) and Lydia Baker(Wing/Post) and freshman Josey Bugbee (Wing).

Hovland sees Parkers Prairie as the top team in the Little Eight Conference, while Ada-Borup/Norman County West, Pelican Rapids and New York Mills will all be in the mix in Section 6A.

Former Rocket standout Carly (Masloski) Jensen will serve as varsity assistant to Hovland.
