Freshman Brenna Tinjum from Underwood had a great all around match on Saturday as the Morris Cougars dethroned the defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) champion Northwestern, winning 3 sets to 1 (25-18, 16-25, 25-19, 25-17) to earn the program’s first bid to the NCAA Tournament.
In addition to the UMAC championship, junior Layne Herrmann became the Cougars’ all-time leader in assists, surpassing Beth Ploof’s record of 3,364 career assists. She finished with 34 assists on the night.
Tinjum’s outstanding effort included 11 digs, 9 kills and 4 ace serves.
The Cougars will find out their first round NCAA Tournament opponent at 11:30am Monday during the NCAA DIII Volleyball Selection Show on ncaa.com.
