The volleyball season ended on Tuesday night for the Brandon-Evansville Chargers with a 3-0 (25-13, 27-25, 25-13) loss to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the section 6A semifinals at West Central Area High School in Barrett.

“When we came into the CGB match we had to win the serving and the serve receive games in order to win the match,” explained B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson. “Those two parts were going to determine if we could attack and get what we needed to in order to be effective. At times we would start to see life come into our side of the net, only to have CGB take control again. They did a better job than we did in those two facets and it showed in their stat line.”

Bailey Schaefer (8 kills, 6 digs, 3 aces), Mikenna Pattrin (7 kills), Brittany Korkowski (5 kills, 1 ace), Kailee Klimek (4 kills), Madison Quinn (23 set assists, 2 kills, 1 block, 1 ace), Korrie Randt (100% serving, 1 ace) and Sara Jacobson (100% serving, 1 ace) were the statistical leaders for the Chargers.

“Set one I thought we came out okay but lost momentum around the 8 point mark,” reported Olson. “We struggled to get anything back, and it was from inconsistent passing. We had been here before, we just needed to start grinding points out and get things going. Set two was a little better in serving and passing. Both teams battled and around 14-all we had a good run extending our lead to 21-15. At this point we had a ball drop and a missed serve. The momentum shifted and we got stuck in a rotation. CGB was very efficient and although we had a few good swings here, they chipped away and ended up taking the set. 25-27. Going into set three the kids were focused. I do think they may have been a bit hesitant do to the importance of making plays count. We were a half step behind and never found our rhythm out there. I feel we played hard all the way to the end. Tough loss, but some days it doesn’t roll your way. Congratulations to CGB, they did what we wanted to. They played really well.”

The Chargers finish the season with a final record of 20-7 and a perfect 10-0 Little Eight Conference record, winning the LEC title.
