The Ada-Borup Cougars are returning to the Section 6A championship game after their 42-22 win over Pelican Rapids on Saturday afternoon in Ada.  The Cougars (8-1) will have a rematch with unbeaten Ottertail Central at the Fargodome next Friday at 5:30pm.  Pelican Rapids ends their season with a record of 5-5.

Ada-Borup quarterback Jared Brainard connected with Preston Gwin on a 37 yard pass to get the Cougars on the board late in the first quarter.  Colby Stevensonbooted his first of six extra points on the day to make it 7-0.

On their first possession of the second quarter Brainard hooked up with Stevenson for a 35 yard TD pass and the Stevenson PAT kick put the score at 14-0.  Pelican Rapids went on an 11 play drive that started on their 29 yard line but stalled on the Cougars 14.  Ada-Borup then went 86 yards in 9 plays and scored on fourth down pass from Brainard to Brett Fetting that covered 31 yards.  That TD and a Stevenson extra point gave Ada-Borup a 21-0 lead with 49 seconds remaining in the half.  Pelican Rapids answered with a six-play, 44-yard scoring drive which resulted in a fifteen yard pass from McHale Korf to Jayden Rutherford with only four seconds left on the clock.

On the third play of the second half Preston Gwin picked off a Korf pass, giving Ada-Borup possession on the Vikings 38 yard line.  Three plays later Verdis Barber ran the ball in from 26 yards out.  Stevenson made it 28-6 with the extra point kick at 9:16 of the third quarter.  Pelican Rapids capitalized on a fumble recovery by Johnny Ziebell when Korf scored on a 3 yard run with 5:04 to play in the quarter.  Korf also ran the ball in for the two-point conversion, bringing the Vikings to within two touchdowns at 28-14.  Barber then scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a one yard run and Stevenson tacked on the extra point as Ada-Borup led 35-14 after three.

A second Gwin interception led to a six yard touchdown run by Fenning with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter and the Stevenson extra point took the score to 42-14.  Pelican Rapids closed out the scoring on an eight-play, fifty yard drive, ending when Damien Britten scored on a one yard run.  Korf scored the two-point conversion and the final score was 42-22.

Pelican Rapids ran for 186 yards and passed for 80.  Korf (15 carries, 78 yards) and Britten (17 carries, 68 yards) led the rushing attack for the Vikings.  Korf completed 6-of-20 passes with Hayden Christenson on the receiving end of four passes for 57 yards.

Barber (18 carries, 146 yards) and Fetting (10 carries, 80 yards) led the 235 yard rushing attack for Ada-Borup.  Brainard completed 7-of-9 passes for 187 yards.  Mason Miller (2 catches, 44 yards) and Gwin (2 catches, 40 yards) were the receiving leaders for the Cougars.
