“We jumped to an early lead in set one and played with a lot of energy,” reported Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross. “The ball was falling for us and things were looking good, we won 25-21. We lost momentum at the beginning of set two and found ourselves playing catch up. We came as close as 21-22, but lost set 2, 22-25. We struggled in set 3 with some untimely errors and CGB capitalized winning 25-17. In set 4, volleyball became a game of inches and CGB had the ball falling on the right side of the line. They had a very aggressive team offensively, and didn't let much drop defensively and won 25-23. I was proud of our team for always fighting back and never giving up. I thought our seniors, Abby Marfell, Morgan Evavold, Isabel Dahl and Emma Fitzgibbons played with heart and determination.”
Morgan Evavold ended with a career high 16 digs and 2 ace serves, Isabel Dahl added 14 digs and 3 ace serves, Emma Fitzgibbons added another solid performance, ending with 15 kills, 21 assists, 12-12 serving, and 8 digs. Daityn Beske had 14 assists, Kayla Rocholl added 23 digs, Ally Johnson and Ceri Meech each had 3 ace blocks, Ally Johnson and Shaynah Smith added 4 kills apiece, and Brooke Hovland had 14 kills on the night along with 2 ace blocks.
“It’s always tough to end the season, but I was very proud of how are team grew throughout the year,” concluded Coach Ross.
C-G-B will now face Brandon-Evansville in the semifinal round of the Section 6A playoffs at 7:00pm Tuesday at West Central Area High School in Barrett.
