The Barnesville volleyball team defeated Sebeka 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) on Thursday night in the opening round of the Section 6A playoffs.

“We came out ready to play with the thrill and excitement of tournament time,” said Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “We made a few attacking errors early in the sets, but for the most part we played great defense and worked to keep our attacking tempo quick. Our passers did an outstanding job putting our setters on the net so we could attack in system. We established our middle hitters early in the set tonight and it kept opening up more holes in their defense.”

Elora Passa (15 kills, 17 set assists, 13/13 serving, 14 digs), Claire Meyer (14 kills, 8/9 serving, 1 ace), 5 digs), Emily Condon (7 kills, 11/11 serving, 1 ace, 36 digs), Samantha Passa (6 kills, 15 digs), Kimberly Maesse (23 set assists, 16/17 serving, 1 ace, 7 digs) and Kya Anderson (11/12 serving, 3 digs) led the lady Trojans.

“Emily and Kya did an outstanding job in the backcourt picking up attacks from Sebeka,” said Askegaard. “Claire Meyer also had a big night up in the front row blocking and attacking. I was very pleased with how well we played in the opening night of playoffs. These girls really work hard together as a team and like to be in control of a match. Sebeka is a great defensive team who made things difficult for Elora up in the front row, however we were able to make a few adjustments and be successful.”

Barnesville will now face Wadena-Deer Creek at 7:30pm Friday in Perham.
