Knights Fall to Tigers in 6AA Football Playoffs

Tuesday, October 23 the West Central Area/Ashby Knight football team traveled to Morris for the first round of Section 6AA playoffs. The contest pitted the 5th seeded Knights versus the 4th seed Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers. 

The scoring summary is short as both teams played solid defense. In fact the scoreboard had zeros for both teams at the end of the third period. The Tigers managed to get on the board first at10:54 in the 4th quarter capping a 71 yard 14 play drive that ended in a 25 yard field goal kicked by Jr (PK) Eli Grove

WCAABE answered with 2:32 showing on the clock when Sr (RB) Scott Johnsonfinished a 75 yard 14 play drive on a three yard touchdown plunge. Sr (QB) Isaiah Sykora threw the PAT pass to So (TE) Jaden Norby. With little time left MA/C-A put together a final drive that covered 69 yards in seven plays. With just 25 ticks of the clock remaining So (QB) Brayden Daugherty found Sr (TE) Jaret Johnsonfor an eight yard strike. Daugherty ran in the PAT giving the Tigers the go ahead and winning score. 

Offensively the Knights controlled the ball for 45 plays. The gained 223 yards with 79 through the air and 144 on the ground. The team was 5/9 in the third down department and one out of two in fourth downs. Isaiah Sykora went 7/10 throwing the ball for all 79 yards. Sr (RB) Christian Norby led the ground game with 63 yards on 11 carries, Scott Johnson added 57 on his 11 rushes. Jaden Norby caught four balls for 48 yards and Sr (FB) Tanner Bennett added a pair of catches for 25 yards. 

Defensively, the Knights gave up 254 yards on 50 snaps of the ball. 212 yards came from the running game and 42 from the pass. The Tigers were 3/9 on third down conversions and were successful on their only 4th down attempt. Defensive stat leaders for the Knights include: Freshman (LB) Colton Lindquist with 6 tackles and 5 assists, Jr (DB) Braden Overson had 7 tackles and 3 assists, Sr (DE) Gavin Paulson added 2 tackles, 8 assists and a sack, and Sr (LB) Tanner Bennett had 3 tackles and 12 assists.
