Underwood defeated Breckenridge 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) in the Section 6A volleyball playoffs on Thursday night.

“The first game was very energetic for us, we jumped out to an early big lead at 13-5, with Isabel Dahl leading the way with 7 straight serving points,” reported Head Coach Diane Ross.  “Breckenridge fought back hard with some excellent defense, but we were able to close it out.  They had developed good momentum going into set 2 and started out with a 5-0 lead, we closed the gap and with the score 10-11, Emma Fitzgibbons served us into a 14-11 lead, which we were able to maintain. Set three was a battle, even after we took an early lead, Breckenridge came back with some big rally wins, they had pulled ahead to a 8-7 lead, but we got the serve back after a stuff block by Ally Johnson and Daityn Beske served us to a 12-8 lead. Ally Johnson got another big block in that run.  Brooke Hovland got lit with a couple of kills after that, and Emma Fitzgibbons finished the match with a smashing kill.  Breckenridge has a young positive team, it was a hard fought battle.”

Stat leaders were Emma Fitzgibbons with 13 kills, 18 assists, 22-22 serving, 20 digs, and a block assist, Brooke Hovland added 10 kills, Shaynah Smith 8 and Ceri Meech 7 kills, Daityn Beske had 15 assists and served 12/12.  Isabel Dahl served 15/16 with 2 aces and 8 digs.  Kayla Rocholl had 16 digs, Morgan Evavold added 10 digs, Ally Johnson had 4 stuff blocks.

The Rockets are 17-11 on the year and will face CGB on Friday in Barrett for the right to play in the sub-section championship game.
