The Brandon-Evansville volleyball team opened the Section 6A playoffs with a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-23) victory over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Thursday night.

“Coming into tonight we knew Wheaton would have a lot of energy,” said B-E Head Coach Kelly Olson.  “They just had a good win last night and coming off that win would have some momentum.  The first set they jumped us pretty quickly.  Our ball control struggled at times and by the time we straightened it out we had dug ourselves a huge hole.  We battled though and although we lost that first set we did find something.  Now that something went away again during the second set until we were down 17-23.  We called out second time out and after that the girls played much better winning that set 26-24 and the next 25-16.  The fourth set was a battle the whole way.  Brittany Korkowski carried a lot of weight tonight.  She was good all the way around for us.  Mikenna Pattrin held her own in the middle as well.  Wheaton dug up a lot of balls and served very tough with no misses that I can remember.  Our girls did grind it out though. We played really hard and should be happy. We played well enough to win and get some confidence heading into tomorrow's game against Henning.  We are excited to be moving on and can hopefully put something together.”

Leaders for the Chargers were Bailey Schaefer (18 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs, 1 ace), Mikenna Pattrin (13 kills, 5 blocks), Haddey Zastrow (8 kills, 1 block), Kailee Klimek (5 kills, 6 digs. 19/19 serving), Brittany Korkowski (6 kills, 6 digs, 10/10 serving), Madison Quinn (42 set assists, 7 blocks, 4 kills, 2 aces) and Sara Jacobson (9 digs, 1 ace).

Brandon-Evansville will face Henning at 7:30pm Friday at West Central Area High School in Barrett.
