Barnesville had 484 rushing yards and 523 yards of total offense on Tuesday as they opened the Section 8AA playoffs with a 74-22 thumping of the Frazee Hornets.

“It was good to come out and play well after a couple of tough losses,” commented Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand. “The team played about as well tonight as we could and had the best 2nd quarter I ever remember, putting up 49 points in that quarter alone.  We did it with a great ground game and stellar defense.  Very proud of the kids tonight after that effort.”

Hunter Anderson led the Trojans with 117 rushing yards on 7 carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns. Aaron Schiefert had 114 yards on 8 attempts, scoring once. Other top runners were Chase Brenner (9 carries, 61 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Adam Tonsfeldt (3 carries, 55 yards, 1 TD). Tonsfeldt completed both of his pass attempts for 39 yards, including a touchdown pass to Preston Snobl (2 catches, 39 yards, TD).

Defensive leaders were Tanner Kadrmas (4 tackles, 1 sack), Hunter Anderson (8 tackles), Kaden Zenzen (6 tackles), Brooks Martinson (6 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), Hunter Zenzen (6 tackles), Brady Kroll (7 tackles) and Adam Tonsfeldt (2 interceptions).

“We have been battling sickness the past couple weeks and I was concerned coming into the game, we had a couple starters that missed Monday before the game for one reason or another,” reported Coach Strand.  “We only ran 38 plays on the night and had 9 different guys carry the ball, and our top two rushers aren't usually starters, so it was a good night.”

The Trojans will host Roseau at 2:00pm Saturday.
