The Rothsay Tigers hosted a playoff football game for the second time in as many years when they welcomed the Park Christian Falcons to town for a quarterfinal round contest in Section 6 9-Man on Tuesday night. The Tigers recorded their first home playoff win in twenty years, blanking the Falcons, 38-0.

The Tigers chose to defer their coin toss so the Falcons wound up getting the ball first.  The Tiger defense was up to the challenge picking off a pass on a third down to start their own series.  They scored their first touchdown 7 plays later on a 1 yard run. The two point conversion try failed and Rothsay had an early 6-0 lead.

The Falcons turned the ball over on downs on their next series and the Tiger rushing attack took advantage of the situation until a fumble ended their drive with just seconds left in the first quarter.  On the next Falcon offensive possession they appeared to gain some momentum but the Rothsay defense eventually forced a punt.

The Tigers took the ball all the way down to the goal line but another fumble left them without points once again.  They got another chance after forcing a quick punt and getting good field position on the ensuing possession.  The Tigers took advantage and scored on a 34 yard run, increasing their lead 12-0.  After misplaying their next punt the Tigers got one more chance before halftime to go up three scores.  This time they finished the drive and scored on a third and goal to go up 18-0 at halftime.

“Our defense was stout tonight,” reported Head Coach Josh Nordick.  “They stayed disciplined and took advantage of their mistakes.”

In the second half the Tigers picked up where they left off scoring on a 9 yard touchdown run and taking a 26-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter.  After trading punts the Falcons were forced to try to play catch up and throw for a quick score.  But after 4 incomplete passes, they gave the Tigers a chance to put the game out of reach.  Rothsay scored on a two yard run to go up 32-0.

In desperation mode the Falcons were forced to go to their air again but an interception led to another rushing touchdown for a final score of 38-0.

“It was a team game tonight,” said Nordick. “Offense and defense both stepped up and put a complete game together.  We will hope to build on this win as we travel to play a very tough Ulen-Hitterdal/Norman County East team on Saturday afternoon.”

The Tigers were led by Seniors Jacob Christ, who rushed for 162 yards on 14 carries, scored 3 TDs and 1 had one catch for 16 yards.  He also had 14 tackles to lead the defense.

Thomas Webster played well on the offensive line and helped stopped the Falcons passing attack. Braden MoenTanner Keep, and Parker Keep anchored both sides of the line rushing for a team total of 416 yards and stopping the ground attack of the Falcons.
