The Breckenridge Cowboys intercepted four passes on Wednesday night and came from behind to beat the Barnesville Trojans 21-20. It was the second consecutive one point loss for the Trojans and dropped their record to 6-2 on the season. Breckenridge also finished the regular season with a 6-2 record.

Barnesville scored the first TD of the game on a 52 yard run by Chase Brenner, taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Daniel Erlandson’s 9 yard run tied the game for Breckenridge and an extra point kick by Charles Boldingh gave the Cowboys a 7-6 lead. Barnesville made it 12-7 when Adam Tonsfeldt scored from three yards out and Breckenridge regained the lead on a one yard plunge by Hunter Feigum and another Boldingh PAT kick, making the score 14-12 after one quarter of play.

Barnesville took a 20-14 lead in the third quarter when Preston Snobl carried the ball into the end zone from the one yard line and Brenner scored the two point conversion.

The game winner came in the fourth quarter when Jack Aigner ran the ball in from 19 yards out and Boldingh again booted the extra point, providing the margin of victory.

Cooper Yaggie completed 33-of-6 passes for 54 yards for the Cowboys, but left the game due to a collarbone injury. Aigner was 2-for-3 for 21 yards in relief of Yaggie. Feigum led the ground attack with 71 yards on 12 rushing attempts. Caden Mcgough was the leading receiver with two catches for 33 yards. Mcgough, Max Johnson and Tyson Piechowski each intercepted a pass for the Cowboys.

Leaders for Barnesville were Brenner (12 carries, 80 yards, TD) and Tonsfeldt (11 attempts, 59 yards, TD).

Barnesville finished with 233 rushing yards and 15 passing yards, while Breckenridge had 168 yards on the ground and 71 yards through the air.

"It was a very physical game but I thought our kids responded well to it," said Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  "We made too many mistakes with penalties which cost us one interception and throwing four interceptions cost us for the night.  We played just bad enough to lose the game.  I thought the kids played hard all night and in the end we had a chance to win the game and we just couldn't pull the ball in.  That is the way things go at times.  We have lost two games by a total of two points.  We will get better and improve on what we are going wrong and we need to get healthy."

Barnesville will open the playoffs with a home game against Frazee on Tuesday night, while Breckenridge entertains Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
