The Hillcrest volleyball team won their home Little Eight Conference match with Rothsay on Tuesday night 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 18-25, 25-22).

"What a fun win for our Seniors tonight as they played their last home game of their high school volleyball careers,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “We played very well right out of the shoot and ran our offense aggressively. In the second set we served a great game and forced a lot of errors for the Tigers. Something "switched" in the third set for us and we struggled with communication and passing errors. But, into the fourth set, we found our rhythm again and came from behind for the win!”

The Comets were led by Alida Viksoy (10 kills, 11 digs, 4 ace serves), Hanne Brennhaug (8 kills, 14 digs, 31 set assists, 5 ace serves), Olivia Foss (8 kills, 15 digs), Lydia Juhl (4 kills, 8 digs), Molly McGuire (9 digs), Audra Ewan (12 Set assists, 9 digs) and Mack Foss (23 Digs, 4 ace serves).

“We will round out our season with the "Blocktoberfest" Tournament over at Kennedy High this Thursday,” added Coach Foss. “Most of the teams are from AA schools but it will be a good mix-up and challenge for us going into Section play-offs next Monday."

Rothsay was led by Chase Balken (1 ace, 2 assists, 2 digs), Emily Christ (1 ace, 7 kills, 1 block, 10 digs), Grace Lider (2 kills, 5 digs), Jayna Gronewold (5 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist, 16 digs), Jenna Fabre (2 aces, 8 kills, 1 block, 14 assists, 11 digs), Kenadi Carlsrud (4 kills, 2 blocks), Rachel Brenden (2 aces, 6 kills, 2 digs) and Summer Wigdahl (2 aces, 25 digs).

“Our main focus tonight was to play as a team,” said Rothsay Head Coach Kim Braaten. “We were able to do so which made the outcomes of those earlier games easier to cope and move forward with. Our team definitely all came out to give 110% of the effort and that’s all any coach can ask for. We had a great night of passing, setting, and moves on the net. Our defense on the net was especially impressive and something that was a huge turn around compared to last night. It was fun to coach and to be a part of. Hillcrest is a fun team to play against. Our team appreciated their effort and sportsmanship that they displayed tonight. I have a lot of respect for how Debi Foss coaches her players. By the looks of it, she is an excellent role model and coach to have on their side. I love to see and play against coaches that can carry themselves the way she did tonight with her players. I believe that both teams won tonight in their own way and that it was a fun night for volleyball.”
