The Fergus Falls girls soccer team led for the first 78 minutes of their Section 8A quarterfinal battle with Bemidji on Saturday at Bemidji State University, however, the Lumberjacks tied the game with 1:58 to play in the second half and won it with a "Golden Goal" just 56 seconds into the first overtime period.

With 6:12 left in the first half Mady Eklund took a corner kick and Miranda Hoffman crashed the net and buried it to give the Otters a 1-0 lead.

Bemidji got the game tying goal, also on a corner kick opportunity, as Emma Deanscored.  The game winning goal was scored by Lindsey Hildenbrand, assisted by Aliya Berard.

"The girls had a game plan going into tonight's game and they executed it," said Head Coach Ben Jurgens of the Otters.  "Our goal was to pop one early then play more defensive, keeping our substitutes rotating through on short shifts.  The girls played amazing soccer.  They played so hard for each other.  The ball just didn't bounce our way toward the end of the game.  It's difficult to write an end of the year story on a team you care for so much.  These girls will go on to do great things."
