The Pelican Rapids Vikings traveled to Barnesville on Thursday, October 11th for their “pink out” game to honor cancer survivors. The Vikings got beat by the Trojans last year in the post season and were excited to get another shot at them, however, Barnesville prevailed with a three set win, 25-14, 25-14, 25-22, earning their twentieth victory of the season.

“The Vikings started a little hesitant and big eyed,” said Pelican Rapids Head Coach Heidi Isaman. “Their fast pace had the Vikings just a step behind defensively and not ready to attack back offensively. The Trojans took advantage and came at us from all angles. Set 2 Barnesville started strong again with their outside hitter Elora Passa on the offensive run. A big dig by Grace Peterson and a monster block by Greta Tollefson gave the Vikings some hope and the momentum started to shift for a bit. The Vikings came out on top of a very long and intense rally which sparked our intensity level to finally start to rise to the level we needed. The girls picked up their intensity of play but were a little too late and lost the set. Set 3 was a back and forth battle from start to finish. Adriana Torres wanted the ball tonight and did well at the net while Riley Berg turned on the defense pick up a lot of tips and touches. Grace Peterson had her best digging game to date and Greta Tollefson played smart and aggressive volleyball to the end. We led the set 21-17 but were unable to finish strong.

Leaders for the Vikings were Berg (9 kills, 10 digs), Sarah Thompson (20 assists, 5 digs), Torres (7 kills, 6 digs), Ryley Paulson (6 kills), Peterson (14 digs, 1 ace), Kaylie Isaman (15 digs) and Tollefson (4 kills).

The Vikings will travel for our last conference matchup of the season against Breckenridge on Tuesday.
