The Hillcrest Comet Boys soccer team defeated the Fergus Falls Otters 6-2 in the first round of Section 8A playoffs on Thursday at HLA.

The Comets tallied first at just four minutes into the contest.  Markus Fluge passed the ball behind the Otter defense to Eirik Primavera.  Eirik’s initial shot was blocked, but, he put back the rebound into the back of the net.  At 30 minutes, the Otters tied the score on a nice shot by Patrick Sullivan that scooted under Comet’s diving goaltender, Mervin Makundi.  Two minutes later, Iver Honningdal put the Comets ahead for good with a header off a Markus Fluge corner kick.  Two minutes after that, Eirik Primavera stole an Otter pass at the midfield line and pushed the ball ahead to Markus Fluge who scored.  With two minutes left in the half, Eirik Primavera scored off an assist from Markus Fluge, ending the half with the Comets up 4-1.

At 61 minutes, Otter Midfielder, Titus Seland took a shot from the top of the box which went of the head of a Comet D Back and into the back of the net.  At 74 minutes, Markus Fluge placed a beautiful pass to Eirik Primavera who then scored his third goal of the game.  At 78 minutes, Senior Tri-Captain Nick Foss took a direct free kick from outside the box.  He placed it low and hard and it was gathered in by Comet Striker, Ian So, in the box, who scored, ending the game with the Comets up 6-2.

“It was hardly a day for soccer with game time temp of 29 degrees, snow covered field, and a bitter NW wind,” said Head Coach Rod Jensen of the Comets.  “The Otters played a very hard fought match today, I am thankful we were able to come away with the win.  Our defense, Kenneth MurageJowell Seymour, and Trevor Antuna did an excellent job in very difficult field conditions.”

The Comets now 11-5 on the season, will now play the winner of the game between EGF and Crookston, at HLA on Saturday.
