The Barnesville volleyball team came out on top Tuesday night against Sebeka, handing the Trojans a 3-0 (25-22, 36-34, 25-12) defeat. The win improves the Barnesville record to 19-6.

“They are a very scrappy team that plays great defense,” said Barnesville Head Coach Megan Askegaard. “They made it to many balls that we thought were going to be down and scored on. They don’t have much for height in the front row, but find ways to score points on defense. We struggled coming out with some intensity and making plays happen on our side of the court. We traded points with them throughout the entire first set before we pushed on to the finish.”

Serving leaders for Barnesville were Elora Passa (17/17, 1 ace), Kya Anderson(13/13), Kimberly Maesse (13/14) and Emily Condon (19/21, 5 aces).

“Set 2 we found our team struggling to make plays and saw some frustrations out on the court,” commented Coach Askegaard. “We played from behind the majority of the set and worked extra hard on defense to put them away. This was the longest set in volleyball that I have ever seen. We played careful at the end instead of putting an end to the set. I’m proud of the way that we can fight from behind and work to score points as a team. Set 3 we turned our mistakes into points and jumped on the scoreboard early by serving more aggressively and going after all balls in the backcourt. Our block up on the net did a nice job tonight getting their hands on the first contact.”

Elora Passa and Claire Meyer led the attack at the net with 17 and 11 kills, respectively. The blocking game was led by Lauren Halverson with 4 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Passa and Kimberly Maesse each had 19 set assists in the match. Emily Condon and Kya Anderson led the defensive effort with 31 and 30 digs, respectively.

The Trojans will host Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Pelican Rapids on Thursday night.
