The Battle Lake volleyball team paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Tuesday night to face Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in a Little Eight Conference match on Senior Night for the Comets.  Battle Lake survived a thrilling five set match, recording a 25-22, 25-14, 8-25, 14-26, 15-8 victory.

"Tonight, as we honored our senior team members, there was a celebration in many ways," commented Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  "We celebrated the good play and learned from the 'not so good' play.  It was a competitive battle against the Battlers with both sides having moments of strength and weakness.  We were able to come back from a two game deficit to push it into the fifth game.  I'm so proud of the way our girls are playing right now and their team effort."

Leaders for the Comets were Olivia Foss (15 kills, 21 digs), Alida Viksoy (10 kills, 10 digs), Hanne Brennhaug (14 kills, 10 digs, 14 set assists, 7 ace serves), Audra Ewan (7 digs, 22 set assists), Lydia Juhl (2 kills, 5 digs), Molly McGuire (2 kills) and Mackenzie Foss (24 digs).

The Comets will host Parkers Prairie in another Little Eight Conference matchup on Thursday.

Battle Lake was ledby Allison Marso (20 kills, 5 blocks), Halie Johnson (4 kills, 21/21 serving), Kate Christensen (22/22 serving), Hailey Smith (10 digs) and Hayle Knudson (26 set assists).

"We got off to good starts in sets one and two, while Hillcrest did a nice job on defense, forcing us to finish some long rallies," reported Battle Lake Head Coach Jenny Rosium.  "Set three started okay with a 4-4 tie, but then Hillcrest went on a serving run.  We could not figure out her serve and our mistakes piled up.  Set four went back and forth with both teams making great plays and Hillcrest pushed it to a fifth set after some strong offensive play. I am pleased the Battlers were able to pull it together after losing two sets to control and take the fifth set."
