Ashby hosted Hillcrest in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Thursday night with the Comets pulling out a highly competitive five set match. After losing the first two sets by scores of 25-21, the Comets rallied to win 25-19, 25-22 and 15-10.

“What a fantastic night of volleyball for the lady Comets starting with the Junior High match, C squad, JV and into the grueling five set match for the varsity teams,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss. “After going down two sets, we knew we had to work to push it to five sets. Despite our struggle all around from the serving line, we had much better success at the net tonight. It was rewarding to see the girls come back after such a tough game on Tuesday.”

Hillcrest was led by Olivia Foss (17 kills, 23 digs), Alida Viksoy (10 kills, 8 digs), Hanne Brennhaug (7 kills, 24 set assists, 17 digs, 6 ace serves), Audra Ewan (16 set assists), Lydia Juhl (8 kills, 13 digs), Molly McGuire (4 kills) and Mack Foss(23 digs).

Hillcrest will host Battle Lake on Tuesday night as they honor their seniors.

“Again we came together and served well tonight, 92%. I was so happy with this part of our performance,” said Ashby Head Coach Hayley Stevens. “Hillcrest is scrappy and rarely lets a ball drop. They have hustle and heart on the court and we had great long volleys going back and forth the first two sets, consistently. We were hit hard when Aanika Anderson went down and left the match. We lost our rhythm and we couldn’t seem to finish what we started. We struggled to finish a series in the last two sets and had a hard time finding our footing to complete a good pass, set, hit. It’s hard not to say that the loss of Anderson on the court didn’t throw us off. We couldn’t make the adjustment since it’s something we haven’t ever had to practice, so we faltered in the last three sets.”

Madeline Thompson (25/26 serving, 4 aces), Aanika Anderson (13 /14 serving, 2 Aces, 5 kills, 1 block), Amelia Barry (15/18, 2 Aces, 17 assists, 10 digs), Anissa Heinrich (5/5, 8 digs), Brynn Krupke (8/10, 2 Aces, 10 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs), Courtney Koefod (6/7, 28 digs), Halle Dahlen (8 kills, 3 blocks), Josey Ness(15/15, 2 aces, 15 digs) and Taleeyah Johnson (6/6, 2 aces) led the Arrows on the court.

Ashby will host Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and will play at Underwood next week.
