The Underwood Rockets overcame a 14-12 fourth quarter deficit to record a 20-14 win over the Brandon-Evansville Chargers on Friday night in Underwood. A twelve yard touchdown run by Daxton Olson with 3:15 remaining in the game, followed by a two point conversion run by Wyatt Thorson provided the winning points for the Rockets.

“This was one of those fun, competitive games that you’re glad you come out on top of,” said Underwood Head Coach Chuck Ross. “Hats off to our defense for making some big stops tonight   One was right before the half and two more were in the third quarter as B/E really controlled the ball and the clock. Thomas Noyeshad a big interception late in the 4th quarter to seal the win and our offense was able to run out the clock. We were able to get the run game going on our second to the last drive with Daxton Olson running the option to perfection for the game winning drive. The offensive line really took control of the line of scrimmage when we needed it.”

Underwood took a 12-0 lead with a pair of second quarter touchdown runs. Thorson scored on a one yard run and Olson on a 3 yard run.

Brandon-Evansville scored on a six yard run by Marshall Riedel and a two point conversion pass from Keagan Schiele to Luke Moore with 1:50 left in the first half, cutting the Rockets lead to 12-8. The Chargers took the lead with 11:15 left in the game when Schiele scored on a three yard run.

Underwood had 231 (17 passing, 214 rushing) yards of total offense and Brandon-Evansville recorded 207 (38 passing, 169 rushing) total yards.

Olson ran for 89 yards on 13 carries to lead Underwood and Noyes had 55 yards on 10 attempts. Defensive leaders were Zane Swanson (8 tackles), Chase Janu (7 tackles) and Thomas Kaste (7 tackles). Noyes and Jaxon Rich each had an interception for the Rockets.

Riedel led the Chargers with 102 yards on 31 attempts and Schiele completed 4-of-15 passes for 38 yards. Tanner Bitzan caught three passes for 26 yards. Schiele led Brandon-Evansville with 9.5 tackles and Riedel had 6.5. Chris Vinson recorded a sack.

"Very tough, hard-nosed game tonight," commented Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  "Both teams battled but Underwood made a couple more plays than we did to come out on top.  I'm proud of our team for the way they fought for the whole game."

Underwood (5-1) will play at Rothsay on Friday.

Brandon-Evansville (2-4) will host Park Christian School.
