Otters Win Homecoming Shootout with Perham, 42-32

Friday night was homecoming night in Fergus Falls and the Otters wound up winning an old fashioned shootout against Perham, 42-32. 

 

Perham struck first when Dawson Kellog scored on a 9 yard run with 8:08 left in the first quarter. Jarrett Huus got the Otters on the board on a 2 yard run with 3:28 left in the quarter. Shane Wahlund added the PAT kick to give the Otters a 7-6 advantage. The only TD of the second quarter was a nine yard pass from Ethan Olson to Robert Sewell and a Wahlund PAT kick. 

A pair of third quarter scores by Fergus Falls senior Cole Knudson helped the Otters establish a 28-12 lead after three. Knudson was on the receiving end of a 59 yard pass from Olson and also scored on a 22 yard run. In between the Otter TDs Josh Jeziorski caught a one yard pass from Jenson Beachy

The fourth quarter was highlighted by five touchdowns. It started when Colton Hackel came up with a 14 yard pass from Beachy, making the score 28-18. Chase Jensen’s 14 yard TD run and Wahlund’s PAT kick made it a 35-18 contest. Beachy countered with a one yard TD run and a Zack Peterson run for the two-point conversion try and it was a 35-26 Fergus Falls lead. Cole Knudson then scored his third TD of the night when he hauled in a 14 yard pass from Olson. Wahlund again booted the extra point kick and it was 42-26 with 2:48 left on the clock. Perham closed out the scoring with just 58 ticks remaining when Josh Jeziorski hauled in Beachy’s 12 yard pass, scoring on the tenth play of an 82 yard scoring drive. 

Fergus Falls ran for 282 yards and passed for 155, giving them a total of 437 yards. Perham passed for 321 and ran for 172 for a total of 437 yards. 

Fergus Falls was led on the ground by Parker Jacobs (10 carries, 96 yards), Knudson (11 carries, 75 yards) and Jensen (9 carries, 74 yards). Olson was 8-for-21 throwing the ball for 155 yards and 3 TDs. Sewell hauled in 3 passes for 20 yards, Knudson had 2 catches for 73 yards and Nic Pearson made 2 receptions for 53 yards. Defensively, Kaden Hartwell, Knudson and Jacobs each had a sack, while Jacobs forced a fumble. Jarrett Huus and Ian Richards each recovered a fumble. 

Jenson Beachy was the leading rusher for Perham with 87 yards on 28 carries. Peterson added 52 yards on six attempts. Beachy completed 24-of-337 passes for 321 yards and 3 TDs. Ty Moser (8 catches, 84 yards), Jeziorski (7 catches, 94 yards, 2 TDs) and Peterson (5 catches, 84 yards) were the receiving leaders for the Yellowjackets. Peterson had a team high 13 tackles with 12 of them solo tackles. Finn Diggins had a fumble recovery. 

Fergus Falls (2-3) will travel to Thief River Falls next Friday night. 

Perham (3-2) will host East Grand Forks next Friday.
