The Rothsay Tigers hosted the third ranked team in the state, the Verndale Pirates on Friday night.  Verndale lived up to their billing by beat the Tigers 60-14.

The Pirates scored on a fourth and eight pass play and added a successful two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead on their first possession of the night.  The Rothsay offense couldn't get anything going against the tough Verndale defense and the Pirates were able to build a 34-0 lead with five minutes left in the half.  Rothsay finally was able to sustain a drive prior to halftime and on the last play of the half they punched the ball into the end zone and added a two-point conversion to make it 34-8 at the break.

"Verndale was a good team," said Rothsay Head Coach Joshua Nordick.  "They are well deserved of their ranking and we didn't show up to play tonight.  We wil have to dig deep and fins ourselves again before next Friday."

The Tiger offense was led by Colby Larson who gained 104 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown.  The defensive effort was led by Thomas Webster who finished the night with 8 tackles.

Rothsay (2-3) will travel to Graceville to face C-G-B at 3:30pm Friday.
