Pioneers Pass for 572 Yards in 36-14 Win Over M State

Defending state champion Northland paid a visit to Fergus Falls on Saturday and left with a 36-14 victory over M State. The Pioneers had 572 yards of total offense, 449 through the air and 123 on the ground. 

 

Northland quarterback Craig Wells completed 18-of-29 passes on the day with four touchdown passes. Devonaire Clairington had a huge day with 7 catches for 207 yards and two TDs, while Kalel Grant recorded 3 receptions for 120 yards and a score. Wells had 50 yards rushing to lead the ground attack for Northland. 

M State quarterback Winston Sweeting completed just 11-of-30 passes for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Leading receiver Lucas Malone caught 4 passes for 55 yards and a score. Mykhal Chavis ran for 90 yards on 16 carries and hauled in 3 passes for 40 yards. 

Defensively, Keyshawn Prince and Ja’leel Williams each recorded a sack. Lewis Jackson and Curtis Edwards led the defense with 7 tackles each and Kyle Zuberadded six tackles. 

M State is now 1-4 on the season. They will play NDSCS on Saturday in Wahpeton with kick-off set for 1:30pm.
