Underwood defeated Battle Lake 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-11) in a Little Eight Conference match on Thursday in Battle Lake.

“Our team established a good rhythm tonight,” said Underwood Head Coach Diane Ross.  “We were able to move the ball around on offense and our defense picked up as well.”

The first set was back and forth through one complete rotation. With Battle Lake leading 9-7 Emma Fitzgibbons served 6 straight points to give the Rockets a 14-9 lead. In the second set the Rockets were able to hold a 3-4 point lead, but there were many long volleys, and points were hard fought. “Emma had another 8 point serving streak in set 3 to give us a good lead,” said Ross.

Underwood had a balanced attack with Fitzgibbons leading the way with 11 kills, followed by Brooke Hovland with 10, Shaynah Smith 7, Ceri Meech 6, and Ally Johnson 5. Emma finished with 24 set assists and Daityn Beske added 11. Emma added 4 ace serves and Morgan Evavold 3 aces. Kayla Rocholl led the defense with 22 digs, followed by Emma Fitzgibbons and Dawsen Beske adding 10 each.

The Rockets are 5-1 in the conference, 11-8 overall and will face the Wheaton Warriors on Monday in Underwood.
