Balanced Offense Leads Perham Past Thief River Falls

The Perham Yellowjackets broke open a tight game with a 28 point second quarter on the way to a 49-18 victory over Thief River Falls on Friday night. 

The Prowlers got on the scoreboard first as Grant Hartmann scored on a one yard run with 4:12 to play in the first quarter. The extra point kick was blocked. Perham responded with an 8 yard run by Ty Moser with 3:25 remaining in the quarter, capping a 4 play, 58 yard scoring drive. Jenson Beachy was intercepted on the two-point conversion try and the first quarter ended in a 6-6 tie. 

Colton Hackel hauled in a 59 yard TD pass from Beachy just 40 seconds into the second quarter to give the Yellowjackets a 12-6 lead and Beachy connected with Moser on a 22-yard scoring toss with7:01 remaining in the half. Beachy ran in the two-point conversion and it was 20-6, Perham. With 2:43 left Dawson Kellog ran the ball into the end zone from four yards out and Josh Jeziorski caught the two-point pass from Beachy making the score 28-6. Beachy’s 12 yard run with 34 seconds left in the half capped the first half scoring and the Yellowjackets took a 34-6 lead into the locker room. 

The two teams exchanged scores in the third quarter as Aaron Bruggeman was on the receiving end of a 26 yard pass from Justin Anenson with 9:31 left in the quarter to bring the score to 34-12. Perham answered with a 5-yard run by Moser with 7:10 remaining in the quarter. Moser also scored the two-point conversion and Perham increased their lead to 42-12. Thief River then scored at 6:25 on a 32 yard run by Brenan Peralta and Perham finished the scoring when Finn Diggins scored on a five yard run and Hackel added the PAT kick to put the final at 49-18. 

Perham compiled 500 yards of total offense with a balanced attack that featured 239 rushing yards and 261 passing yards. Beachy completed 11-of-22 passes, throwing for a pair of touchdowns and also ran for a team high 73 yards on 13 carries. Hackel led the team with 6 receptions for 168 yards. 

Jeziorski and Leighton Rach each intercepted a pass and the Yellowjackets received sacks from Isaac LungColton Kostynick, Moser, Max Tostenson and Diggins. Lung led the team with six tackles and Dawson Kellogg was in on five. 

Perham will take a 3-1 record into Fergus Falls on Friday night for a 6:00pm contest on homecoming night for the Otters (1-3).
