Schiele Throws for 4 TDs as Chargers Top Bears 44-14

The Brandon-Evansville Chargers hosted the Bertha-Hewitt Bears in a high school football contest on Friday night with the home team prevailing by the score of 44-14. 

"Hard fought game tonight,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Tim Pattrin.  “We were able to make some big plays through the air which was huge for our offense.  Our D bent but didn't break which was key to the win." 

B-E got on the board at the eight minute mark of the first quarter when Keagan Schiele delivered a 26 yard TD pass to Marshall Riedel to make it 6-0. Bertha-Hewitt tied the game five minutes later on a one yard run by Devin Dean. With one minute left in the opening quarter Brandon-Evansville went back on top when Tanner Bitzan found the end zone on a six yard run and Schiele hit Luke Moorefor the two-point conversion to put the score at 14-6. 

Schiele hooked up with Sam Fuller on an 11 yard scoring toss with only eight seconds left in the half and then hit Moore with the two-point conversion pass to extend the Chargers lead to 22-6 at the half. 

In the third quarter, Riedel returned a punt 93 yards for a TD. Tony Schaffranhauled in the two-point conversion pass from Schiele, giving Brandon-Evansville a 30-6 advantage. They made it 36-6 when Schieled connected with Bitzan from 40 yards out with 6:30 left in the third. A 4 yard pass from Schiele to Bitzan with two minutes left in the third and another two-point pass from Schiele to Schaffran completed the B-E scoring and gave them a comfortable 44-6 lead.

Bertha-Hewitt finished the scoring with a fourth quarter touchdown run of six yards by Dawson Perlinger and a two-point conversion pass by Kole Weishalla

Brandon-Evansville finished the night with 303 (122 passing, 181 rushing) total yards. They held Bertha-Hewitt to 180 (10 passing, 170 rushing) total yards and had 21 first downs to just 10 for the Bears. The Chargers also held the Bears without a third down conversion in 12 tries, while converting 7-of-8 third down attempts themselves. 

Individually, Riedel led the ground attack with 88 yards on 11 carries and Bitzan was the top receiver with 52 yards on 4 receptions. Schiele completed 8-of-13 passes for 122 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Bitzan was in on 11 tackles, 7 of which were solo, and Sam Fuller recorded eight tackles. 

Brandon-Evansville (2-2) will travel to Graceville for a 3:30pm kick-off against the Wolverines of Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Friday afternoon.
