With only one returning starter from the 2017 Breckenridge volleyball team that finished 20-10, many varsity positions are open as Margaret Wilson begins her second year as head coach of the Cowgirls.

Senior setter Chase Yaggie, is the only returning starter. Seniors Anya Maack (Right Side Blocker), Nina Jirak (Outside Hitter) and Carly Vizenor (Defensive Specialist), juniors Riley Lorenz (Middle Hitter) and Madelyn Larson (Defensive Specialist), sophomore Jude Held (Middle Hitter), freshman Camryn Kaehler (Outside Hitter) and eighth-grader Abby Johnson (Outside Hitter) are battling for varsity court time. Yaggie and Lorenz will serve as team captains.

“We have only one returning starter, so you could say our weakness is inexperience,” said Coach Wilson. “We see this as an opportunity. We have a great group of upperclassmen and underclassmen looking to step up and help us reload. Our underclassmen bring a lot of excitement and energy to the floor. These players put in time in the offseason and worked hard to get themselves ready for the varsity level. We are excited to compete!”

Wilson, who will be assisted by Alicia Finkral (JV), Missy Johnson (B Squad) and Briana Dauer (9th Grade), sees Wadena-Deer Creek, Barnesville and Underwood as the top teams in Section 6A, while Perham and DGF are the favorites in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference.
