When it comes to picking favorites for the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 6A volleyball titles in 2018, the Barnesville Trojans are at the heart of the conversation.

“This team is coming in with a great deal of experience playing together, as well as plenty of enthusiasm to perform at the highest level,” said Head Coach Megan Askegaard, beginning her eleventh year in the position. “They are a talented group of ladies who love to play the game of volleyball. They are strong leaders on the court and that will help their overall team performance down the stretch. They are coming out of pre-season practice hungry to be successful. It has been fun watching our team transform and fill those shoes of the seniors who graduated last season.”

Top returning players are seniors Elora Passa (388 kills, 345 assists, 227 digs) and Claire Meyer (39 kills, 49 blocks), junior Emily Condon (59 kills, 296 digs) and sophomore Samantha Passa (448 digs). Elora Passa enters her senior season with 698 career kills and 824 career assists.

Seniors Kendra Paulson, Natalie Votava, Nicole Mulcahy, Kaitlyn Maesse, Grace Hagen and Emily Spilde, junior Kya Anderson, and sophomores April Schridde, Jordan Tschumperlin, Olivia Sorenson and Kimberly Maesse are all battling for varsity court time and will provide Coach Askegaard with great depth.

McKinzie Tangen (JV), Rachel Solum (B Team) and Maggie Stickney (C Team) will assist Askegaard.

Coach Askegaard sees Pelican Rapids as the main challenger to the Trojans in the HOL and the sub-section, with Underwood and Wadena-Deer Creek as top competitors in Section 6A.
