“We need to stay healthy and continue to improve,” said Strand. “I think we have the tools and personnel to compete for district and section honors, but again, the key is staying healthy and learning to play together.”
Returning players include Jackson Wahl (RB/LB) who averaged over 7 yards a carry and compiled just under 800 yards last season, Connor Morris (G/LB) who started last year as a sophomore, Hunter Zenzen (DE), Preston Snobl (E/DE) and Chase Brenner (RB/DB), all 3-year starters, 2-year starters Jackson Poepping (C/DT), Brooks Martinson (E/LB) and Matt Samuelson (T/DT), and Adam Tonsfeldt (QB/DB).
“Jackson is a great runner who is strong and has great vision,” noted Strand. “Connor is one of the best around, he’s smart and moves well. Hunter is one of the best in the area, too. A tremendous defensive player who has the size, speed and intelligence to do great things. Preston is big, fast and strong, and he brings a lot of energy to the field. I think we will have two of the biggest. Strongest ends around. Jackson and Adam are great leaders, Chase has shown us some great things and is very quick, Brooks is strong and smart and Matt learned a ton last year as a sophomore and I believe he will have a great junior season.”
Kellen Hinsz, Gabe Dent and Nick Detloff are all back after missing last season and should step into varsity roles.
Phil Trowbridge, Nathan Strand and Nick Paur will assist Strand, while Scott Snobl, Ace Gregg and Dain Biewer will serve as volunteer coaches.
Coach Strand says Hawley is the team to beat the Midwest District – White division and in Section 8AA.
