The Underwood volleyball team is coming off another very successful season. 2017 saw the Rockets win the Little Eight Conference title, take the South Sub-Section 6A championship and finish as runners-up in Section 6A competition. They return four starters and eight letter winners from a team that compiled a record of 25 wins and 6 losses and put together a 10-0 conference mark.

First team all-conference player Emma Fitzgibbons (Outside Hitter/Setter) and juniors Kayla Rocholl (Outside Hitter), Ally Johnson (Middle Hitter) and Ceri Meech (Right Side Hitter) are the returning starters. Other letter winners coming back are seniors Morgan Evavold (Defensive Specialist), Isabel Dahl (Defensive Specialist) and Abby Marfell (Right Side Hitter), and junior Shavnah Smith (Middle Hitter).

Sophomores Brooke Hovland (Outside Hitter), Daityn Beske (Setter) and Dawson Beske (Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist) are all seeking varsity court time.

“We are looking forward to the year,” said Head Coach Diane Ross. “It will be a challenge to replace some key losses to graduation (Outside Hitter Brenna Tinjum, All-State Honorable Mention, Conference MVP, attending U-M Morris, Setter/Hitter Sydney Hovland, All-Conference First Team, M State-FF, Libero Corina Mark, All-Conference First Team, M State-FF, Middle Hitter Sara Swartz), but it will be fun watching the girls compete for their team roles. The girls have worked hard in the off season. We should be competitive.”

Ross will be assisted by Breck Grove, Kali Koehn, Carly Jensen, Miranda Leroy and Desi Frie.

Ross sees Wadena-Deer Creek, Henning, Barnesville, CGB and New York Mills as teams that will challenge in Section 6A, while Brandon-Evansville and Parkers Prairie will be contenders in the Little Eight Conference.
