The Fergus Falls Otters captured their third consecutive Midwest District Red Division championship last season as they advanced all the way to the section finals, finishing with an 8-2 overall record and a perfect 7-0 record in the division.  In 2018 the Otters bring back a solid nucleus, despite losing a large number of seniors to graduation.

Returning strength exists on the line with seniors JB Sandahl (OL/D), Ryan Ratz (OL/DL) and Bauer Rogelstad (OL/DL) entrenched there.  Junior Dustin Portales (DL) helps anchor the line on defense.  Seniors Matthew Johnson (WR/DB), Nic Pearson (WR/DB) and Jarrett Huus (RB/DB) provide the team with some play makers on both sides of the ball.

Senior Robert Sewell (WR/DB), Chase Jensen (RB/DB) and Cole Knudson (TE/DB), along with juniors Ethan Olson (QB) and Parker Jacobs (RB/LB) will all step into to full time varsity roles for the Otters.

"We have a lot of people to replace due to graduation, but returning three offensive linemen is a good starting point," acknowledged sixth-year head coach Steve Olson.  "We will have a lot of depth at receiver this season and will look to put the ball in the air and to spread it around.  Chase Jensen and Parker Jacobs will start the season splitting time at our tailback position and we feel they bring a lot to the table.  Defensively, we need to replace three defensive linemen and both linebacker spots.  We will have a lot of options on the defensive line and look for Jarrett Huus and Parker Jacobs to handle linebacker duties as they both saw a lot of time last year.  Our secondary looks athletic but will need to gel as a unit as the season progresses."

Olson, assisted by Shane Thielke, Kevin Pearson, Keith Pearson, Josh Steer and Judah Burlingame, points to Rocori as the team to beat in Section 8AAAA, while Detroit Lakes and Perham are his top picks to contend in the Midwest District Red Division.
