Barnesville defeated Park Rapids by a score of 73 to 58 in a non-conference home game for the Trojans on Monday night. The first half was basically back-and-forth as the ball went in the basket for both teams. The Trojans ended the half down by a score of 34 to 33. “Defensively, we let their leading scorer, Carter Hirt, get loose as he had 16 in the first half,” said Barnesville head coach Matt Askegaard. “We did a much better job of on him in the second half as he finished with 20 on the night to lead all scorers.”
Askegaard continued, “We were very patient on offense and worked the ball around against their zone. We had really balanced scoring tonight. I’ve said it before, we can be really good when we share the basketball and that’s what we did tonight. For a Monday game it was kind of sloppy at times but not all wins are or have to be pretty. We stayed the course and stuck to the game plan.”
Leading Barnesville in scoring was senior Brody Faulkner with 15. Seniors Grant Quiggle and Adam Branden added 12, junior Martin Dukek had 11 and senior Logan Ehlert just missed double figures with 9.
Barnesville is now 8-9 overall and 5-5 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference play. The Trojans head to Staples-Motley on Friday for their next game.
