The Henning boys’ basketball team made over 50% (29-57) of their field goal attempts on Monday night, including hitting 40% (11-27)) from beyond the arc, as they ran their unbeaten streak to start the season to 18 games with an 81-67 victory over the Pillager Huskies. The Hornets lead was 34-33 at the half, but they outscored the Huskies 47-34 over the final 18 minutes of the game.
“This was a really big road win for us in a tough environment,” reported head coach Randy Misegades of Henning. “Pillager’s only conference loss was to us early in the season and they are a very solid 2A program. We had to overcome an early deficit and some foul trouble, but were able to get to halftime leading by a slim margin. We started the second half well and extended the lead to 19 before closing the game out by knocking down some free throws.”
“Zack Wiederich (11 points, 3 blocks, 4 rebounds) hit some big shots to help us extend the lead and Beck Thorson (9 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds) was aggressive again looking for his offense,” continued Misegades. “As usual, Ryan Despard (19 points, 6 rebounds) was solid all night. Kale Misegades (37 points, 10 assists, 13 rebounds) showed tonight why he is one of the top players in the state. He shows up all over the stat sheet, but most importantly he makes his teammates better and shows up in the biggest games.”
Andrew Parrish (18 points, 6 rebounds), Elliot Imdieke (12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Gabriel Parrish (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks) led the Huskies, while Aaron Peterson and Alexander Brandt added 9 points apiece. Brandt also had 5 rebounds and Parris came up with a pair of steals.
“It was fun to see our younger levels avenge losses from earlier in the season which shows how much they had improved,” concluded Coach Misegades. “Pillager thumped us in both the C-squad and JV games the last time around. Tyson Eckhoff was the hero in the C-game knocking down a tie breaking triple in overtime. And Easton Misegades made a deep three with time winding down to put us ahead and close out the JV game. This was a really fun night for our program overall.”
Pillager (11-5) will host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Thursday night.
Henning (18-0) will host Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday.
