The Barnesville boys’ basketball team finished as runner-up in both Section 8AA and the Heart O’ Lakes Conference last season, ending up with a 22-7 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the HOL.  Losing Gannon Bolgrean (Football at MSUM), Nick Robideau, Brady Nosal, Jack Maesse, Isaiah Zajac and Jack Bredman to graduation created some holes for head coach Matt Askegaard as he begins his fourth season leading the Trojans.

Grant Quiggle (SR, G) is the lone returning starter, while Logan Ehlert (SR, G) saw a good amount of playing time too.  Other seniors include Cody Mostue (G), Kaden Nosal (G) and Jensen Messer (G).  Junior Martin Dukek (F) and sophomore Jacob Strand (G) were also letter winners.

Jackson Meyer (SR, F), Tyson Anderson (SR, F), Brayden Dunham (JR, G) and Parker Strom (JR, G) will all be counted on to make varsity contributions.

“With a new season on deck, this group steps in knowing the bar is already set high,” noted Coach Askegaard.  “A great deal rides on seniors Grant Quiggle, Logan Ehlert, Brody Faulkner and Adam Branden, who carry the bulk of our returning experience and are expected to anchor us on both ends of the floor.  The rest of senior class brings toughness, maturity, and the kind of presence that keeps a team steady through the grind of a long season.  Our juniors, Brayden Dunham, Parker Strom and Martin Dukek steps into bigger roles this year, and their development becomes a major key for us after graduating so much production and leadership.  Sophomore Jacob Strand is also expected to make a significant leap, proving energy and scoring punch as he grows into a larger role.  As a whole, this group understands the expectations, embraces the challenge, and shows up hungry to keep our program’s momentum rolling.”

Adam Tonsfeldt (JF) and Justin Haugen (9th grade) will assist Askegaard.

Askegaard says Pelican Rpaids, Perham, Breckenridge and Staples-Motley are favorite sin the HOL, while East Grand Forks, Perham and Staples-Motley are the top teams in Section 8AA.
