First year head coach Jerome Huselid will take the reins as head coach of the first year Border West girls’ basketball program as Wheaton/Herman-Norcross and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley have joined forces to form the Buccaneers. Brittany Erickson and Tanner Teske will serve as assistant coaches.
“Everyone is a newcomer to the program,” said Huselid. “The fun part is forming and building relationships in a new program. The girls are doing an unbelievable job of forming these relationships and working hard in practice, learning and growing together. It is an exciting time.”
Julia Schmidt is a key player lost from Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, along with Reagan Spilde and Addison Blume. From CGB, key players lost were Addison Ward, Marcy Anderson, Chloe Cardwell and Brianna DeNeui.
“With this being our first year as a program, we have strength in numbers,” noted Coach Huselid. “We will have a deep roster, including speed and quickness. We have talent in many different areas and will use that for team success. Our goals are to establish consistent fundamentals, new offensive and defensive schemes, and develop a system for years to come. We are fortunate to have success in both teams and thankful to the previous coaching staffs in building skills and talent. We look forward to a fun and successful season.”
Huselid says West Central Area, as the defending section champs, will be the team to beat, however, he also feels there are several strong teams in the conference and the section.
