The Wadena-Deer Creek girls’ basketball team lost some impact players with the graduation of Addyson Gravelle, Montana Carsten, Leah Osberg and Jenna Dykhoff, but the cupboard is far from bare as they return junior Payton Gravelle (F), and seniors Jada Dykhoff (G), Ashley Pavek (G), Kennedy Ness (F), Lily Parker and Tori Mallak.

“We expect to be competitive this season,” said head coach Jordan Cresap, now in his seventh season with the Wolverines.  “We have good size, length, and athleticism.  It is a cohesive group that plays well as a team.  In order to have a successful season we will need to find some depth and have some girls step up in bigger roles.”

Cresap is looking for juniors Chloe Philippy (F) and Ava Hall (G), sophomore Braelyn Becker (G) and eighth-grader Karlee Sweere (G) to step into varsity action.

The Wolverines ended last season with a 17-10 record and went 11-3 in the Park Region Conference.  “We made solid strides throughout the season,” noted Coach Cresap.

Wendy Gravelle (JV) and Jordan Anderson (C Squad) will assist Cresap.

Cresap sees DGF, Pelican Rapids and Hawley as the top teams in Section 8AA, with Menahga the team to beat in the Park Region.
