Hadley Bakker’s second goal of the night was an overtime game winner as Maple Grove edged Alexandria, 2-1, in the season opener for both teams. Cate Fischer assisted on both goals and Maisey Tomlinson also had a helper on the overtime tally. Maple Grove finished with a 37-17 advantage in shots on goal.
The first period was scoreless and Bakker’s first goal came at 7:50 of the second period. Alexandria tied the game with an unassisted goal from Teagan Cullen at 14:25 of the third period. The game winner found the back of the net just 27 seconds into the extra period.
Alexandria goalie Victoria Meyers did a great job keeping the Cardinals in the game as she stopped 35-of-37 shots on goal. Bella Prosser stopped 16-of-17 Alexandria shots.
