The Marshall Tigers scored five second period goals to open up a 7-0 lead on the Fergus Falls Otters Friday night as the two teams squared off in the first girls’ hockey game of the season. Marshall held a 34-16 advantage in shots on goal, including a 19-6 disparity in their big second period.
A pair of first period power play goals got the Tigers off to a great start. Elsie Deutz scored the first goal of the night with an assist from Brianna Foley 3:03 into the game. Brooklyn Mauch netted the second power play goal of the period at 15:34 with Lucie Pearson earning the assist.
Mauch’s second goal of the game came at 5:31 of the second period and was setup by Peyton DeMuth and Abbey Foley. At 10:42, scored from DeMuth to increase the lead to 4-0. DeMuth took the lead to 5-0 at 12:25 with assists from Mauch and Abbey Foley, and Mauch then completed her hat trick fifteen seconds later with assists from DeMuth and Abbey Foley. The final goal of the night came from Deutz at 13:31. Brielle Felton Krog and Eme DeMuth assisted on the tally.
Marshall goalie Lily Stelter stopped all sixteen shots she faced, while Ella Sem of the Otters turned aside 27 shots.
Fergus Falls will host Willmar in their home opener on Thursday, November 13.
