Fergus Falls Post 30 captured the Casselton Invitational Tournament title with a dramatic 2-1 championship victory over Grafton Post 41 on Sunday, capping a dominant weekend with another standout pitching performance—this time from Parker Thielke.
Thielke went the distance, firing a complete game four-hitter. He struck out six, walked two, and didn’t allow an earned run, securing Post 30’s second tournament championship of the month. His final line: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 6 K.
Facing him on the mound for Grafton was Tony Villarreal, a Mayville State pitcher, who was equally sharp. Villarreal allowed just five hits and one earned run over six innings, walking three and striking out five.
Grafton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth after Villarreal walked, advanced on a fielder’s choice, and later scored on a wild sequence. After an errant infield throw moved him to third, he capitalized on the moment and stole home two pitches later.
Post 30 answered quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Levi King led off with a walk and Micah Johnson reached on an error. Thielke executed a sacrifice bunt to move both runners up. With runners on second and third, a balk brought King home to tie the game, and Johnson scored the go ahead run on a clutch RBI double to the left-center gap by Nolan Felstul, giving Fergus Falls the 2-1 lead.
Grafton mounted a threat in the top of the 7th. After an opening strikeout, Post 41 loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batter. That’s when Post 30 catcher Brock Scheuerman delivered the defensive play of the tournament. On a failed suicide squeeze, Scheuerman tagged the runner at home, then chased down a retreating runner between first and second, firing a strike to Hunter Powers for the final out—completing the double play and sealing the championship.
Fergus Falls tallied five hits in the game, led by Scheuerman (2-for-3), Micah Johnson (1-for-3), Nolan Felstul (1-for-2, RBI), and Powers (1-for-2, BB).
Coach Shane Thielke on the Tournament Victory:
“This was a great weekend for Fergus Falls Baseball. We played quality opponents and stayed consistent from start to finish. Our pitching was exceptional—we didn’t allow an earned run all tournament—and our defense was just as solid, committing only one error the entire weekend, which led to the only run we allowed. We faced strong pitching in every game, but our guys were locked in at the plate. That’s fun to watch, fun to coach, and it builds a winning mentality. These kids definitely earned it. I couldn’t be more proud—and ultimately, it was just a lot of fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
