Detroit Lakes has the team lead and the top two individuals after day one of the Class AA boys state golf tournament held at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan. DL Junior Brock Burhans fired a 69 to claim first day medalist honors and Tyson Eckhoff of the Lakers came in with a 70 and is tied with two other golfers, Charlie Hanson of Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta and Bennett Scissons of the Marshall School in Duluth. Fergus Falls senior Adam Kennedy is tied for 19th after his opening round score of 75.
“Adam used his length off of the tee to his advantage when he needed to but equally important hit high quality golf shots when they were called for,” stated Fergus Falls head coach Travis Johnson. “Winds were fairly light which allowed the pins to be accessible. Adam never really made any lengthy putts but hopefully we can save those for day two.”
Hawley 8th-grader Hudson Midthun is tied for 52nd place after his 79 on Tuesday.
