St. Cloud Cathedral scored 5 runs in the third and 2 in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead over the Hawley Nuggets on Friday in the Class AA Softball State Championship game. The Nuggets got two in the top of the seventh, but could get no closer as they suffered a 7-2 loss to the Crusaders.
Hannah Stotts (2-3, HR, 2RBI, R) launched a two-run homer for Hawley’s runs. Marley Knutson scored in front of her after reaching on a single.
The Crusaders were led by Kyah Koenig (1-3, HR, 3RBI, R), Tayla Vought (1-3, HR, 2RBI, R), Sadie Meyer (1-2, RBI, 2R), Elizabeth Bell (1-2, R), Finley Polipnick (1-2, R) and Keira Alexander (1-2, R).
Alexander (7IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 3BB, 5K) was the winning pitcher.
Eagan Hastings (6IP, 6H, 7R, 6ER, 1BB, 5K) took the loss for the Nuggets.
