On a beautiful night for baseball, the 2025 Fergus Falls Jr. Legion Post 30 swept the Perham Jr. Legion Buzz. The 2025 team is looking to build upon the success of the 2024 team that had an amazing run to the Division I 2024 State Tournament. The 2024 head coach, Shane Thielke is back with the team, but as assistant coach as he was promoted in the offseason to the Sr. Legion team. Chad Felstul takes over the reigns from Coach Thielke and is excited about the talent on this year’s team.
In game 1, Brody Krein got the nod on the bump for Post 30 and pitched an absolute 5 inning gem, only giving up 1 run while striking out 6 as Post 30 won 11-1 in 5 innings. Perham started the scoring in the top of the second but Post 30 responded in a big way by putting 5 runs on the board. Post 30 loaded the bases in the bottom of the second with Krein and Josh Horgen singling and Tanner Donaghue walking. Jacob Jenc coaxed a walk out of the pitcher to tie the score. Dexter Felstul and Caleb Fronning had RBI fielder’s choices. Nolan Felstul singled in Dexter Felstul to end the scoring for the inning. Post 30 put the game away in the bottom of the 3rd with 6 runs. In the inning Donaghue and Eli Fullhart led off the inning with walks and Dexter Felstul singled to load the bases. Caleb Fronning singled scoring one, Benett Thielke doubled and scored 3, and Josh Horgen doubled scoring 2. Horgen had 2 hits in the game, leading Post 30.
In game 2, Post 30 spotted Perham 2 runs but they showed their resilience by scoring 2 in the bottom of the first with Fronning getting hit by a pitch and scoring on Thielke’s double. Nolan Felstul singled in Thielke to tie the game. In the bottom of the 4th, Nolan Felstul singled and scored on Krein’s double. Micaiah Abramson singled scoring Jacob Jenc pushing Post 30’s lead to 5-3. Post 30 ended the game in the bottom of the fifth by scoring 8 runs. To start the inning, Krein walked, Horgen singled, Jenc walked, and Cam Peterson walked. Luke Warner had an RBI fielder’s choice to extend Post 30’s lead. Krein ended the game in 10-run walk off fashion with a 3-RBI triple. In the second game, Jacob Jenc came in relief and pitched an excellent 3 innings, only allowing 1 run to earn the win for Post 30. In the second game, Krein had 3 hits and Nolan Felstul and Josh Horgen each had 2 hits.
Post 30 will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday at home against Bemidji (first game starts at 4).
