Alexandria Girls Win Pre-Section Event at Headwaters Golf Club

On Friday the Alexandria girls’ golf team traveled to Park Rapids to play the Pre-Section event at Headwaters Golf Club.  All 11 teams from Section 8AAA competed on the course where the tournament will be played later this month.  The Cardinals were able to post a 9-stroke victory over runner-up Willmar.

 

Alexandria had top six finishes from Rachel Bowen, Cadence Simon and Ellie StichaMadelyn Holmstrom was the medalist with a 77.  Bowen and Simon tied for second with Willmar golfers Kennedy Mara and Lucia Martin-Rodriguez with all four turning in rounds of 78.  Sticha was sixth with an 80.  Layla Matthews of Becker and Olivia Roaldson of Moorhead fired 81’s, tying for seventh place.

The other Alexandria scores included an 86 from Mattea LeClair, a 92 from Haley Srock and a 96 from Kaiya Chapin.

“Brainerd and Moorhead also have teams that are capable of challenging for the Section 8AAA title,” noted Alexandria head coach Timothy Zupfer.  “The team will embark on a very busy week with three events.  They will play Monday at Rich Springs Golf Club, Tuesday at Territory Golf Club, and Wednesday at The Classic.  We will be rotating a number of players into the lineup in order to balance the players’ classroom needs.”
