Fergus Falls won 3 of the 4 singles matches, but Perham swept all three double matches to post a 4-3 victory over the Otters in a high school boys’ tennis match on Thursday. “Very competitive match,” stated Fergus Falls head coach Derek Abrahams. “We competed at each spot up and down the lineups and were looking for a couple of breaks, and just came up short.”
SINGLES
#1 – Maddax Happel (PER) def. Clayton Peppel (FF) 6-1, 6-2
#2 – Leo Schierer (FF) def. Paytan Myers (PER) 4-6, 7-5, 6-3
#3 – Tyler Heruth (FF) def. Kaleb Frohling (PER) 7-6 (4), 2-6, 10-7
#4 – Dane Hare (FF) def. Mike Stoll (PER) 6-1, 6-2
“Tyler Heruth and Leo Schierer continue to improve and had a couple of their grittiest matches of the year pulling out a couple tough wins for us when the match was still up in the air,” noted Coach Abrahams. “Dane Hare continues to improve each week and cruised to a win at 4 singles. Clayton Peppel also continues to show his leadership each and every match but came up short to a tough opponent again at #1 singles.”
DOUBLES
#1 – Zach Morbert/Noah Brasel (PER) def. Cohan Mannie/Isaiah Ibarra (FF) 6-1, 6-4
#2 – Jack Hennagir/Breck Borowicz (PER) def. Gabe Carlson/Sullivan Rufer (FF) 7-6 (4), 6-2
#3 – Ethan Wimmer/Charlie Murdock (PER) def. Hudson Emerson/Kai Laucheur (FF) 6-1, 6-2
“In doubles, we had to make some adjustments again and our teams worked hard and just came up short,” said Abrahams. “Again, this match was in the balance the whole time, and unfortunately a couple tiebreakers didn't go our way or else the results could have been a little different.”
The Otters will finish a suspended match with Detroit Lakes on Friday morning and will host a triangular with East Grand Forks and New London-Spicer on Saturday at 10:00am at the KSS Courts.
