Perham and Breckenridge split a Heart O’ Lakes Conference softball double header on Tuesday with the Yellowjackets winning game one, 8-4 and the Cowgirls taking game two, 6-4.  “The girls took another step in the right direction today,” stated Perham head coach Kevin Feldt.  “They continue to learn and grow as a team each and every time they step onto the field!”

Morgan Smith continued her hot streak at the plate, going 6-for-7 on the night, and Joslyn Griffin showed her dominance in the circle once again, totaling 18 strikeouts in the 11 innings pitched between both games.

Smith was 3-for-3 in the first game with a single, double and home run, driving in 3 runs and scoring 3 times.  She also stole a pair of bases.  Aveah Grismer knocked in a run with a double and also scored.  Macey Minten and Ashtyn Kunza also drove in runs for Perham.  Brielle Kelsen drove in two runs for Breckenridge and the Cowgirls stole 6 bases in the game, led by Sydni Roberts and Claire Langenwalter with 2 each.

In the second game, Smith (3-4, 2B, 2RBI, R), Griffin (2-3, 2B, 2R), Mari Pulver (2-3, RBI) and Devin. Solberg (3-3, 2SB, R) led the Perham attack.  Leaders for Breckenridge were Roberts (2-2, 2BB, 2R, SB), Langenwalter (2-3,2B, SB, RBI, 2R) and Aubrey Boesen (1-3, 2B, 2SB, 3RBI).  Marley Mumm (7IP, 11H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K) went the distance in the circle to earn the win.

“It’s exciting to watch and see this team grow, learn and compete,” exclaimed Coach Feldt.  “They continue to work and play hard each and every game and practice.  Good things are happening and will continue to happen for the Yellowjacket Softball Team!”
