Perham swept a double header from Hawley on Tuesday afternoon, winning 13-0 and 4-2 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference baseball action. Drew Ellingson (4IP, 12K, 3BB, H) was dominant on the hill in the opener, while reliever Joey Ecker (3.1IP, 2H, 3K, 3BB, 0R) earned the win in game two.
Gavin Griffin delivered a bases loaded triple to key a five run second inning in the opener, giving Perham a 6-0 lead. Six more runs crossed the plate in the third as the Yellowjackets built a 12-0 lead. Ashton Detloff came through with a 2-run single and Ellingson belted a two-run homer in the inning.
Perham took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two when Ty Rooney delivered a sacrifice fly. Hawley captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from Dillon Hoekstra and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Wyatt Jetvig. A single by Tate Zacharias in the Perham half of the second tied the game at 2-2. Perham took a 3-2 lead on a passed ball in the third inning and added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly from Bradyn Anderson in the sixth.
“I was very happy with our play today against one of the top teams in the state,” stated Hawley head coach Beau Lofgren. “Game one was a little rough at the plate, but we responded with a solid battle in the nightcap. Tommy Slette (7IP, 4R, 3ER, 8H, 6K, BB) pitched well and our defense played error-free ball. The story in game two was stranding 11 runners. You can’t do that in a close game. We will keep working to improve. Special thanks to Perham for hosting us as our field is not yet playable.”
