The Chargers got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jack Kelly grounded out, Breitkreutz singled to right field, Blake Koep walked, and Sawyer Chlian was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.
B-E added one run in the third after Chlian grounded out.
Austin Bennett stepped on the hill first for WCA. The pitcher allowed four hits and five runs over three innings, striking out four and walking three. West Central Area was led by Colin Dostal who went 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 runs batted in. He also closed out the game on the mound with a 7-pitch inning.
Brandon/Evansville tallied 10 hits in the game. Breitkreutz provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Chargers with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day, including a triple and three runs scored. Seth Thoennes added a couple singles and a triple along with a couple stolen bases. Jack Kelly also had a multi-hit game and scored two runs for B-E.
“We got a great starting pitching performance from Colton Breitkreutz and a couple solid relief innings from Sawyer Chlian who made his varsity pitching debut,” reported B-E head coach Brian Perleberg. “Both pitchers handled the cold and windy conditions well and showed mature mound presence. The offense came up big in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs which helped set the tone of the game. We had many contributions both at the plate and on the bases with six players collecting at least one hit.”
B-E will host Pelican Rapids on Thursday in a non-conference game beginning at 6:30.
