The Wadena-Deer Creek softball team is coming off a 19-4 season that saw them claim the Park Region Conference championship with a 12-2 conference mark.  They have reason for optimism heading into the 2025 season as 8 of their 9 starters from that highly successful team are returning.

“We are very excited about that,” exclaimed third year head coach Brooke Umland.  “We have a lot of younger girls that are vying for that other starting spot.  We have great leadership on the field and the majority of the team has been playing together for the last 3 seasons.”

Keith Ferris, Kyle Petermeier and Casey Volkmann will assist Umland.

Returning starters include seniors Jenna Dykhoff (P, 1B), Addison Carr (2B), Montana Carsten (P, 1B) and Lizzy Kveton (OF), juniors Jada Dykhoff (SS), Isabelle Lehmkuhl (C), Ashley Pavek (3B) and Lily Parker (OF), sophomore Alyssa Carr (OF) and freshman Celia Rinio (OF, C).

Junior Arynn Lorentz (1B), sophomores McKenna Brauch (2B, OF) and Karly Haverkamp (P, OF) and freshman Braelyn Becker (P) will also be in the varsity mix.

Umland says Menahga is the main challenger in the PRC, while the Braves, Hawley and DGF are top teams in Section 8AA.
