The Hawley Nuggets defeated Wadena-Deer Creek in a Section 8AA girls’ basketball playoff game on Thursday night, eliminating the Wolverines from the tournament.  “Tough one in Hawley tonight,” said head coach Jordan Cresap of WDC. “Great start for us, but then Hawley’s length and athleticism gave us trouble to end the half. Proud of our girls for not giving up, but the 10 point halftime deficit proved to be too much.”

McKenna Walker led Hawley with 19 points, making 5 3’s.  Ingrid Rustad scored 14 and Addison Sanvik scored 11. Katarina Vetter contributed 8 points.

Montana Carsten scored 18 points to lead the Wolverines.  Jada Dykhoff and Payton Gravelle each scored 9 points.

“Shout out to our seniors for their amazing careers,” added Coach Cresap. “They represent WDC schools incredibly well. Addy Gravelle, Montana Carsten, Leah Osberg, and Jenna Dykhoff have been outstanding leaders and role models for our younger kids to look up to. They will be missed!”

Wadena-Deer Creek finishes their season with a 17-10 record.

Hawley (15-11) will play at DGF Saturday at 7:00pm.
