Hillcrest took on Rothsay in a Little Eight Conference volleyball match on Tuesday night in Fergus Falls.  The Comets were able to take care of the Tigers in three sets, posting wins of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-8, handing head coach Debi Foss her 100th career coaching victory.  “We had a nice win tonight,” commented Foss.  "Our play had a better rhythm, which allowed us to swing more efficiently.”

The Comets were led by Emily Adams (10 kills, 3 digs, 2 set assists, 1 ace serve, 1 block), Ruby Peterson (2 kills, 31 set assists, 9 digs, 21/21 serving, 2 ace serves, 1 block), Ella Knutson (11 kills, 12 digs, 3 ace serves), Elsa Retzlaff (4 kills, 8 digs, 12/12 serving, 1 ace, 1 block), Chloe Walkup (4 digs, 2 ace serves), Maddie Miller (8 digs), Kate Olstad (5 kills) and Aaveah Stender (4 kills, 2 blocks).

“Senior Kate Olstad and freshman Aaveah Stender did a nice job of stepping in and both had great attacks,” noted Coach Foss.  “Ella Knutson and Emily Adams led us offensively with efficient and purposeful hitting.  Maddie and Chloe continue to complete their assignments in the back row!  Great win for the Comets!  We look forward to building on this momentum in our upcoming matches.”

The Comets will host the Underwood Rockets on Thursday in their final LEC matchup of the season.

Rothsay was led by Vanessa Sullivan (3 kills, 1 block, 4 assists, 6 digs), Lauren Reber (7 assists, 7 digs, 8/8 serving), Lisa Kjelgaard (15 digs, 4/4 serving), Bethany Danielson (4 kills, 8 digs), Andrea Phillips (6/6 serving) and Grace Carlsrud (5 digs).

"There's a reason Hillcrest was undefeated until last week, they're a very good team that goes for everything and are always looking to attack," stated Rothsay head coach Tanya Kort. "We also had a lot of errors on our end that didn't help the cause. I am trying to instill in the girl that hard doesn't mean impossible and every match we go play I believe we can win, whether it's a set or a whole match, anything can happen. Congratulations to Coach Foss on 100 wins, that is quite the accomplishment and she deserves it!"
